How to build a technology roadmap leadership will actually use

A roadmap that lives in a slide deck isn't a roadmap. Here's what makes technology planning stick.

A useful technology roadmap connects clearly to business objectives (growth plans, risk tolerance, budget cycles) rather than existing as a standalone list of projects.

Prioritisation matters more than completeness. A roadmap that tries to do everything at once is rarely executed; one that sequences a handful of high-impact initiatives is far more likely to succeed.

Revisit the roadmap on a regular cadence. Business priorities shift, and a roadmap that isn't reviewed periodically quickly becomes disconnected from reality.
